Later
model land rovers, from mid 2001 and later (2A chassis number), had a catalyst fitted into
the exhaust down pipe. This reduces exhaust
noise significantly, but more importantly, also causes a restriction in the exhaust
system. Due to this, the turbo takes much longer to reach full boost, Increasing the 'Turbo Lag' effect. By simply
fitting a 'decat' down pipe, which is a direct replacement for the original pipe,
you can make a dramatic difference to the way the engine picks up from low revs, due to improved
exhaust gas flow. Also, when used with our sports exhaust systems, you'll get a further
boost and a lovely exhaust note too!
Why
dont we make 'Big Bore' systems? A 3 inch bore
system would not be appropriate for modern land rover diesels, since the turbo outlets are only 2 1/4 inches in diameter. Age old (Proven) tuning theory
states that the optimal turbo down pipe should be 10% larger in diameter
than the turbo outlet casting. This is precisely why land rover
chose 2 1/2", as it's a perfect match to the turbo. Using 2
1/2" pipe maintains a rapid flow of exhaust gasses to get them
out quickly! Using 3" pipe would reduce the velocity of exhaust
gasses, their fore retaining excess heat at the turbo, and exhaust manifold. Another factor is the reduction
of back pressure you'd get from a 3" exhaust, as the wide open
space of the exhaust takes more gas to fill it, and hence push out
the tailpipe. The result could potentially cause turbo over speed,
which can seriously decrease the life span of your turbo!
I
want my exhaust to be loud!, Can you make me a noisy system? This is a question I am often asked by Defender owners in particular,
so due to this demand, we can offer a mid silencer replacement pipe
for all of our performance exhausts, so you still get the same stunning
looks, but with a far more pronounced growl! For later models such as the TDV6, you can add a decat pipe which will make it sound more like a V8!

Our Range Rover Sport systems (Above), like all our exhaust systems, is designed to fit straight onto the original downpipes for ease of fitment. The TDV8 sport system also allows you to convert from a DPF exhaust, although software changes will be required as well.
The TDV6 sport exhaust system is the same as the TDV8, except the mid section (X-Pipes) are replaced with a small silencer. TDV6 also has the option of a decat pipe on both Disco 3, and Range Rover Sport.

Premium decats are available for (Left) Defender 2.4 TDCi Puma, (Center) Td5, (Right) TDV6, and 300 Tdi (Not shown).
Our Premium T304 grade Stainless Steel, original fit straight through decat down pipes
give significantly increased flow on all models. These decat down pipes are made with fanatical attention to detail, and will mate to your existing land rover
exhaust system, as well as our own performance exhaust systems.
Budget decat pipes are also available in 409 Grade Stainless Steel. |
