Customer: Mick - Disco II TD5 Auto

I'd noticed several other Disco's around with the 'TD5 Alive' badge on the back so knew just who to call when I bought my Disco TD5 Auto some weeks back.

I needed an EGR bypass as i'd had previous experience of the problems it can cause on a 300Tdi so visited Gary for a kit to be fitted and we discussed where I thought that the engine could be improved by remapping it.
I wasn't after any earth shattering performance that would reduce the reliability of the engine but felt the throttle response was very poor. Although the engine pulled well enough when you buried your foot to the floor, it made it hard work to drive.

Gary tailored a map on his laptop based on his experience and what I was telling him. A simple upload of the software via the vehicles diagnostic port was all it needed to remap the engine ECU.

On the test drive I immediately noticed the throttle response was far more positive with only a small input to the peddle to make the engine pull. Engine refinement was also improved at 2.5-3K rpm. Although the auto box doesn't make the best out of the engines low down torque at slow speeds, fast roads or on the motorway when the torque convertor is locked is a marked improvement. Gary also showed me how to lock the torque convertor at slower speeds by moving the gear selector back to third for overtaking.

Back in the late 80s/early 90s I owned a couple of cars with the Peugeot XUD 1.7 Turbo diesel engine and always enjoyed the way they would storm up long inclines on the motorway. I'd forgotten all about this but after Gary worked his magic on my Disco, it reminds me very much of the way these cars used to drive. Fast overtaking and motorway driving is a pleasure.

I would recommend anyone with a TD5 to take a ride to Grimsby and let TD5 Alive give you what your engine has to offer.

Customer: John - 2000 Defender 110 TD5

From the start:-
I wanted to fit cruise to my defender to aid me towing on them long motorway journeys, but having a non flashable ecu it's not an option so I spoke to Gary about replacing my ecu to a flashable type. Gary sent me the standard map file for my Nanocom, which I put on to the flashable ecu which got me up and running, but then it hit home cars back to standard previous non flashable ecu had a stage 2 tune by a well known land rover tuner from Coventry, but the cruise worked at least!!
Then I started looking round and speaking to td5 tuners and I opted for TD5 Alive, speaking to Gary you could really tell he knows his stuff.
I opted for the Nanocom remapping service, told Gary what I used the car for and he sent me a tuned map ļļ, all I had to do is give him feed back on smoke and any more problems so he could alter it till it was right. I must admit I think I did cause him a couple of headaches, but we got there!!.
The only advantage or disadvantage depending on how you look at it, is that I could swop between the 2 ecu and compare them side by side, and what a difference between the 2,
TD5 alive!! And I mean alive, its back to being car that is a pleasure to drive again! Slow or flat out!
What a difference I have a throttle pedal!!! The more I push the throttle the more it pulls and if I release the throttle I just slow to where I release the pedal too!!!! It pulls all the way through rev range!! Yes a more relaxing drive, cruise is working great as well.
Previous tune was really harsh when looking back, nothing below 1700rpm and all hell let loose then nothing over 3500rpm! The throttle you were either on or off! No in between!! Not good when I look back.
TD5 alive tune might not push the engine to its max limits like other tuners but Gary¡¦s tune pushes them to safe limits!!!
Anyone looking round for a good tune for a TD5 give Gary a call you want be disappointed.
Thanks Gary

Customer: Phil Kearns - 2001 Defender 90 Td5

Having left home at 0530 in order to drive the 160 miles to 'Alive Tuning' near Grimsby. I covered the journey in just over three hours doing a steady 60 Mph most of the way. Fuel consumption was good at around 30 mpg and the noise levels in my Defender 90 tolerable.

I arrived as arranged and met Jim who made me a coffee and discussed the work that was to be done. As previously discussed I was to have a hybrid turbo, Sports exhaust and larger intercooler together with a revised remap having had a full remap some years previously from Gary at Td5 alive.

The work was completed in the day and a test drive was carried out. All well so far. The problems came on my drive back to Cheshire. At a steady eighty to ninety miles per hour, fuel consumption was down to around 27 mpg and it was very difficult not to keep on accelerating very hard in order to feel the massive amount of extra torque. The noise levels were now ridiculously low inside the vehicle compared to when I had my centre box removal pipe. (fortunately the noise on the outside was still juicy) On top of that, the extra tuning highlighted a slight wheel imbalance and a worn steering damper bush which made speeds of over ninety feel unstable. This has now been rectified and the odd Range Rover owner has been left feeling a little deflated.

In conclusion. If you wish to have a vehicle that holds it's own against most other four wheel drives and has so much extra torque and power that you can't keep your foot off the right hand pedal, go and see Gary at Td5 Alive.

Many thanks Gary and Jim

Customer: Peter Matheson - Discovery 3 TDV6 2004 Manual

Firstly may I say a huge thank you for your great efforts this weekend
at Driffield LRO show.
I was only thinking about doing something with my D3, not actually going
ahead with anything this weekend! I wasn't sure what the answer was, but
on chancing upon your stand at the show, your confidence and style
persuaded me to take that leap of faith! My 'Sally' was to have a
re-map! With all the competition around, I was apprehensive as to
whether to go with Alive Tuning or fish around..alas I drew a deep
breath, had my doubts removed from other show-goers, and went for it. It
was so refreshing to be able to ask anything of you before you start the
work and take my money! With my fears put aside, you performed your
magic! You know how much my D3 means to me.
After some fine tuning, and our final test drive, we were both grinning
ear to ear..what a transformation! You instal confidence too!
Then to the road..after loading up with furniture, I headed north to the
Scottish Highlands, a proper test drive! I love driving my D3 anyway,
but what you have done has taken the experience to new heights. Whether
it was the stand-still start, the roundabout exit or overtaking, Sally
performed! And some! Cruising is a delight, knowing that any malingerer
ahead is easily despatched! So subtle, so responsive, so easy! Money
well spent, with the knowledge that I shall be recouping my outlay
pretty soon with the improved economy..so long as resist playng with the
right pedal!
The only smoke left in my trail is the satisfying puff from my cigar!
Where was my complimentary coffee??!!
Gary, again, thank you for your time, attention and professionalism.
Still haven't told my wife though!
To describe how my Sally now drives..only one word will
suffice..SUBLIME!!
Thank you
Kind regards, Peter.

Customer: john - Landrover Discovery TD5 auto 2000 model

Very impressed with the service Gary provided, even on his free day he booked me in and chipped my vehicle. I recommend this to anyone just for the shear driving pleasure on A roads and motorway driving, the way the power comes in through the rev range. Thanks Gary

Customer: Harry Devine - Discovery II Td5 manual. 2000MY

Why on Earth would I want to replace my current remap that cost me £££s with one from Td5 Alive?
Well for a start, let’s stop calling them Remaps as they should be termed “Grin Implants”, read on…….!
The current and first remap(Not from Td5 Alive by the way)I ever had on my Discovery was really good, compared to a standard ECU map. It was so much better than standard that I got the bug and started to add other upgrades to the car. Initially, it was just a remap but then I added a large Intercooler, silicon pipes, turbo boost box, EGR bypass, Stainless exhaust, Alive air filter etc (you get the picture). Still, the car performed well but I did start to get a little “fussy” and noticed that in the lower gears, the car wasn’t performing as well as I’d like, although in higher gears, it was a pulling machine (pulling as in power and not as in birds).
Anyway, I figured that even without the additional components, there was still this area in the lower gears that wasn’t really up to scratch and even with the added components, as these had been added AFTER the first remap, that they hadn’t been taken into account when that remap was carried out. I had in fact no intention to add additional components remember.
So, as I had already dealt with Gary at Td5 Alive for hardware, I reckoned it only made sense to approach him and see what he could do.
He listened, he remapped, we test drove, we were not impressed (both of us). Gary scratched his head, I scratched mine and then Gary noticed that wastegate actuator rod was twisted at the back end. I had seen this but thought it was normal as I hadn’t compared it with another one. Gary brought out a replacement and then I saw the problem. The twist was allowing the rod to snag on the moving parts when boosting, thus leading to overboosting and pretty “naff” performance. It wasn’t really a problem with the earlier remap but the later and better one magnified the problem.
So, on goes the new actuator rod, off we go on another test drive and back we come after the test drive with big cheesy grins.
I drove all the way back to Scotland (after paying Gary of course) and the car pulled so much better across the entire range, NOT just in the lower gears. I had thought Gary was only remapping to improve this lower gears area, but it actually improved the full range. So the big cheesy grin was on all the way home. No noticeable increase in fuel consumption but the benefits when taking overtaking opportunities as they presented themselves were so good!
Ok, enough prattle, these Grin Implants work.
Hello to John from Norfolk and his 110 who I met at Gary’s also receiving a Grin Implant.

Customer: Alastair Moss - 1999 td5 disco

What can I say that already hasnt been said.I bought this Td5 around a month ago and found the engine to be very lack luster I logged on to a forum and threw the question on chip or remap. A few comments came back and a couple pointing me the way of Gary. I also spoke to the guy who sold me the car and to my alarm he told me it had a performance chip already on.So that made my decision i picked the phone up and gave TD5 Alive a call. and I set off later that week credit card in my pocket . 2.5 hours later I arrive at the workshop and after a cup of tea Gary starts to work. A bigger intercooler Nice shiny blue hoses A remap and turbo booster later I'm off back to Buxton. As i am driving back i think WOW what a difference this isn't the same vehicle the power from the 30mph dead spot that was there with the chip has gone the smooth delivering of power the torque its all there. as to the fuel economy who cares after all you dont buy these for that.Plus its far to early to tell If you are thinking about doing it don't just get it done its well worth every penny. Thank you Gary your a star !!!

Customer: Geert Van Den Noortgate - Defender Td5 130 Campervan

The mood after visiting Gary’s exhaust builder in the beginning of our holiday was at first a bit disappointed because of the bill I got for the exhaust, not so cheap as hoped (my car was used as a pattern to make the first ever Td5 Alive Defender 130 pipe). But it soon changed into surprise after visiting TD5 Alive to show the new shiny stainless steel bits.

Without hesitation Gary offered me a special deal on a Turbo booster and he even did a new chip upgrade for free! Later on our mood turned into complete joy (test driving the upgrades for the rest of our holiday in the UK).

Since I use my 130 mostly as a camper I don’t tend to hammer it around. Top speed? Don’t ask me, I don’t know. I’m afraid of trying it really: would the homebuilt camper box disintegrate? Would the tires blow out? Would it be possible to stop the 3.5 tonnes? Scary, all that power...

So there is definitely more power than needed. Torque at lower revs is what matters! And boy does it have torque!!! You practically can’t feel the heavy weight anymore. It pulls from as low as 1300RPM till over 4000RPM. Lovely. The racy sound the exhaust produces doesn’t really fit a 3.5 Ton campervan, but it is certainly not to loud neither inside or outside.

The Turbo Booster allows pressures up to 1.45 bar (21 psi). And the Td5 Alive reprogrammed, ** Engineering Stage II chip now performs as it should have done from the beginning. I always had the impression all the power was concentrated in the first few mm of pedal travel and in a narrow RPM range: below 2000RPM it was sluggish and once passed 3500RPM there wasn’t anything left.

After Gary’s magic, the power is now nicely spread over the whole rev range and it is easily dosed by the throttle pedal. I don’t really need the high rev range but because of the lovely sound I let it run freely more often, especially in third after a roundabout... Marvellous!
Now, that’s fun! Driving a Td5 Alive!

What I can’t explain is that the exhaust temperature has gone down despite the extra power. Previously it could reach 700+°C but now the recorded maximum reading is 566°C.

Drawbacks? Well, the ** Engineering intercooler doesn’t seem to like the new higher boost pressure, it literally blows up like a balloon but it isn’t leaking (yet).

Fuel consumption: has gone up! Not really because the mileage is down but because I tend to do more miles as it is so much more fun to drive. Exact consumption is not clear yet because the UK pumps tend to shut down after delivering about 80 litres. So I never filled her up completely (260 litres). But I think it is about the same.

So conclusion: well worth the money and time spent! Great super service. I was lucky to have the changes made at the beginning of our holiday. So we could start off immediately for a 4000 mile four week test-drive. Can’t wait till the next holiday but first I‘ve got to install the auto gearbox…
Cheers,
Geert, Lucia and Zanouk the dog.(all from Belgium)

Customer: Tim & Sharron Sibson - Discovery 2 TD5 Auto 1999

Gary your recommended 5 Star +
(As many other DOC members already know)
What can I say, Excellent service from start to finish, with the all important cup of coffee for both myself and wife to start things smoothly.
Friendly, helpful, good advice, knowledgeable and enjoys a good chat. But thorough with his work and meticulous too..

Found and sorted problems with the airflow meter as-well.
The result a much more pleasant and drivable discovery, went for a more bottom end biased remap well worth it as the discovery feels like a different vehicle to drive, it now pulls cleanly and with a new found urgency that it never had before. Also a spin off with a cruise control problem I had of the cruise control not coming off smoothly when the brake pressed has all but gone, you now hardly notice when the cruise control disengages whereas before the disco went with a lurch. What more can I say but brilliant, and will be back in the new year if not before for inter-cooler / exhaust

Customer: Andy Varney - 2000 TD5 ES 81,000

This is worth doing - Gary treats you so well nice cup of Tea before he started. had ECU remap EGR bypass and air filter,Also found a problem with the air flow meter which he replaced.
The drive back was superb - I kept thinking I was in 3rd and not 5th the improved torque is excellent.
Tested acceleration on the A1M - and wow does it go !! all in 5th gear.
It was defiantly worth the travel to see you -
Many thanks again and good luck with getting the workshop sorted
Your attention to detail is superb

Customer: Keith Barber - Foers Ibex

After having the ECU chipped, I am amazed at the difference in performance. Over taking is now effortless!

Acceleration has transformed and is now sports car like.

The work Gary did was brilliant, and I recommend it to anyone!

Customer: Andy Dee-Crowne - 2003 TD5 G4 Defender

I can not believe the difference. I went for the whole stage 2 conversion thinking that the claims were a little over estimated so I should go the whole hog!

Having fitted the exhaust and CAT by-pass the difference was amazing, so much in fact I wondered what difference the re-map would make.

Oh dear how wrong can you be, a quick download via NANOCOM and the turbo boost module fitted and we were away.

Do it you wont be disapointed its worth every penny

Customer: Paul Bryant - Landrover Discovery TD5 ES Auto

I have had my Disco remapped now for a couple of months. I am really surprised Landrover did not do this from the word go. In my opinion, they would have sold many more vehicles here in New Zealand if they had. My fuel economy has remained about the same with no noticeable difference either way (most of my travel is on open roads). However, the first tank full was consumed quicker than normal as my lead foot could not resist using the more abundant power and torque.

I no longer cringe when it comes to overtaking, hills or towing the boat, the Disco now performs really well. Prior to the remap, my 300TDI would reach 100km/hr in a shorter distance and accelerated much stronger at open road speeds. I bought the 300TDI after test driving a TD5 funny enough. I also had a V8 Disco that I sold just before the remap, I would like to have put them side by side to see the difference as I think the V8 would be in for a surprise.

If I had not come across Gary's web site, I seriously don't think I would have bought a TD5. Gary has been extremely helpful and I recommend him as your first point of call. Living in New Zealand, Gary posted me the chip and told me what I needed to do to install it. I have some electronics experience so that helped. I'm glad I went to him first and missed those horror experiences I have heard from other people who didn't.

Thanks Gary, I'm very happy with your product, helpfulness and your expertise.

Customer: Mark Webb - 2003 Discovery Td5 ES7 Manual

Arrived at Gary’s after travelling from Cardiff and firstly he made me coffee, straight away I knew that he was about service and not money.
He asked me all about what I used the car for and what I thought It's faults were and what I was hoping for in his tune. Well I tow a 27 foot caravan and travel to Spain twice a year in it with kids and dog and I was not happy with the torque and that flat spot from standing start and I was still a boy racer at heart.
He started straight away on my 2003 Discovery TD5 ES7 and diagnosed and cleared any faults. Then it was down to the tune, he spent a lot of time, even rewired my spot lamps as he thought wiring was a hazard and he wouldn’t let up until he was convinced the tune was perfect for my car. I had already had it stage 2 tuned elsewhere and was not happy but when Gary got hold of it WOW what a car It is now stage 2+ tuned and if you don’t believe me try and catch me.
On my way home I had a smile from ear to ear with the performance and the smile is still there months later.

Stage 2+ tune
TD5 Alive stainless steel exhaust
Full size Intercooler
Turbo boost box
Silicone Intercooler hoses
EGR by pass
20” Stormer alloys

It now sounds fantastic (not like any diesel I have ever heard )
Slightly better economy ( but I tend to like the sound of the exhaust so not really )
Much more torque ( for towing my 27 foot caravan )
Quicker ( foot down on motorway will keep up with anything )
Safer ( you can overtake knowing that you have plenty of power to get you out or trouble and past other vehicles quickly and safely )
Even that dreaded flat spot that all TD5’s have on takeoff has gone

I can only thank Gary and urge you that if your thinking of having your TD5 remapped go straight to TD5 Alive first, wish I had would have saved a fortune.
Thanks once again Gary!

Customer: Nic Wood - Defender 110 2002

I purchased a Land Rover Defender TD5 from Witham Special Vehicles in May 2007, the vehicle had covered around 115,000 miles and although it had a good service history it was in need of some TLC.
Within a few months, I had fitted a recon gearbox and a recon transfer box with Discovery gearing. Whilst this made motorway driving a little more bearable, getting there was a little tedious and normal driving now involved much more use of 4th and 5th gears.
I had look around at ways to improve performance and chose to have the engine remap tuning (stage one) and the EGR blanking done by Gary Wood of TD5 Alive.
The remap totally transforms the drive of this Defender, and it is more responsive and a much nicer vehicle to drive.
I do a fair amount of driving in the Defender (around 600 miles per week) and whilst this is mostly motorway, the remap has made the most difference when driving around town or on A roads. Its not just improved acceleration that is noticeable (although Gary did say that the 0-60 speed was now 14 seconds as opposed to 20 seconds – hardly an F1 car but noticeably better) the gearing seems to be more flexible, and I can now stay in gear for longer before having to change down without labouring the engine. Its true to say that it took me a few days to get used to the extra performance and I did experiment when moving off from roundabouts or traffic lights and managed to show a clean pair of heels to quite a few family cars before I settled down (something I would never have dreamt of before). I drive mostly the same route into and out of work each day, and there are a few areas where I would have been into 3rd gear to get up the hill, the new remapped engine does 4th or even 5th if the traffic has allowed speed to be maintained.
I also use the vehicle to tow large trailers, and the before & after for towing is remarkable to say the least. With a large transporter trailer and vehicle on the back, I had to keep an eye on the speedo much more than before the remap was done, it was just too easy to pull away and maintain speeds.
Before TD5 Alive remapped the vehicle it was also troublesome to start in cold mornings, I mentioned this to Gary and said I thought it might be time for new engine glow-plugs, but the very next morning (in April) the engine fired up first time, and has done so ever since.
Gary also suggested that I consider the free-flow downpipe as this would ‘brighten up the engine’ and bring in the turbo earlier I fitted this a few weeks ago, and he was right!.
Its been around four months since I had the work done, and I estimate that I get around 50-60 more miles from a tank full of diesel. The mileage I was doing meant that it will pay for itself in the next few weeks.
A Land Rover mechanic friend of mine, drove the vehicle last week, I did not tell him about the remapping, and on his return I casually asked what he thought the performance was like (it now as 135,000 miles on the clock), the huge grin on his face said it all.

Customer: Bob George - Discovery TD5 Auto XS

My first impression of td5 auto ownership was at best lukewarm after many years of defender and disco ownership with tdi/manual driveline and no issues or problems and adequate performance/economy even when towing, which I do a lot of.So I gave TD5ALIVE a call, well several actually,Gary always has time to answer questions and discuss the whole upgrade process without the hype and B/S that others seem to thrive on,ie focussed on customer satisfaction. I sent my ECU for remap and recieved it back a couple of days later as promised;result td5 auto owner now most chuffed with said disco, goes like stink, better economy, totaly different and most enjoyable drive. To sum up, service 1st class, product 1st class, customer is regarded as having particular service requirements that Gary is expert at providing, the product is exactly as described by Gary, who freely dispenses his experience and knowledge for the benefit of his customers. This is one company who's products you do not need to try before you buy, take it from me,get your td5 in top standard condition, then give Gary a call, you won't be dissapointed!!!!!!

Customer: Andrew Beatty - Discovery TD5 Landmark

Gary,

You asked me to email you to let you know how my re-map had affected fuel consumption. Well, it hasn't - but that's only half the story. It may sound cheesy to say that my car is transformed, I know others have said the same in their feedback, but I don't know how else to put it!!!

Let me list the improvements;

Quieter idle
Smoother idle
No flat spots on acceleration
Acceleration
Acceleration
And even more acceleration!!!

My car pulls like a train, in any gear. Leaving it in fifth it can be driven as an automatic and will pull from 800rpm up-hill with three burly blokes on board!! The driveability is vastly superior to stock, I can't believe Land Rover didn't make it this way in the first place. I'm sure I could get more MPG, I'm getting around 28-29, but it's just so much fun that I keep using the 'Go' pedal!!

Thanks again, Gary. Don't forget to send me my TD5 Alive badge when you get them re-made. I want the world to know just what a special Discovery I have !

Regards,

Andrew:

Customer: John - Discovery 3 TDV6 SE

My D3 came (used) from a dealer, with a dealer installed re-map. This was a huge improvement in terms of acceleration over the standard D3 (I've driven them as courtesy cars).

However, the tune felt a bit 'lumpy', and sometimes a little too severe. The response, if I ever really floored it, was pretty good, but for general every day driving, it just felt a little un-refined, almost 'all or nothing'. I don't think I'd ever have gone back to a standard tune, but there were times I wished it was smoother, especially cruising round town. I often got a very gentle 'shunting' when going round built up areas, so would put the TR into a different setting to make it smoother.

I was very pleased with the work Gary did on my previous TD5, so thought I'd look into getting him to take a look at my D3.

I've just driven back from Gary's after he's worked his magic. All the usual great service/coffee/knowledge/pleasant chats and was really pleased he could fit me in as he's very busy.

It really is an excellent improvement. The re-map feels much more in keeping with the style of the car, it's more refined and smoother, and feels much more like the D3 should. Rather than being a lovely motorway cruiser that has a lot of juice to burn people off at the lights at certain rev ranges, the power delivery is smooth and consistent. There's no real difference in acceleration time from my previous tune, but it's way smoother and refined as you pull away. Round town on the way back to my office, it felt much smoother, there wasn't that constant shunt, or feeling like the car was about to pull forward too quickly.

If anyone goes from a standard factory to Gary's tune, they'll be blown away by the increased acceleration, and be reassured that they loose nothing in terms of refinement and smoothness. If anyone goes from a tune of the same make as mine, then they will still find great acceleration, but delivered smoothly and constantly throughout the rev range, with stacks of refinement at low and high speeds.

A real work of art - thanks Gary!

Customer: Mark Dronfield - 1999 Discovery Td5 ES Auto

It's been a few months now since you tuned my Td5 Discovery, and since then it's been like owning a different car. So effortless compared to the standard factory setup.

It's still very clattery when cold, as before, but when its been running for a few mins, driveability and flexibility are in a different league.

I have not noticed any change in fuel consumption, and yet, acceleration is much stronger, smoother and linear. I can now use the outside lane on the motorway - which is when I really notice a difference. Just tapping the accelerator is enough to progress with the other traffic.

It pulls very strongly through the gears, and allows me to overtake slower vehicles at last.

Sound levels are much improved too - the engine is now quieter with the bonnet open as it was with it shut before.

Pulling out of T-Junctions is no longer a gamble, and acts as more of a check to see if the traction control is working

All in all, I'm well impressed. Who'd have thought a couple of hours would have provided such great results ? !

It seems to drive like it's got a larger engine. Should have been like this from the factory really.

Any Td5 owner I meet will hear my recommendations for you.

Keep up the good work. Good luck with the relocation.

Kind Regards
Mark

Top bloke real quality service with a great homely atmosphere, car ran superbly on way home, had a big grin all the way, made a massive difference and so much more fun to drive, I always loved my disco and now this has just made it better, remap, egr bypass and new interccoler, can't rate Gary high enough, Thanks Sara for the Coffee

Customer: Mel Brookes - Freelander TD4

Ecu arrived as promised Friday afternoon & fitted Saturday. It is an amazing bit of kit as it has not changed any of the good attributes of the Freelander but has got rid of the annoying ones.
I can now pull out on to main roads without that heart stopping flat spot, it pulls like a train even loaded with all my kit & feels a lot more confident when overtaking but still potters around town quite happily.
All in all it does exactly what it says on the tin.
Thanks very much.

Customer: adrian stonier - 2000 td5 discovery auto GS

I had the full works when i went too see gary. i had the ecu remapped the bigger intercooler the air filter and the egr by-pass kit. oh and also the stainless exhaust. my favourite part is the exhaust as it sounds awesome but inside yhe car you can't hear it. all together the whole package has totally transformed the power and driveability of the car. you have the power there to overtake and you don't need to wait for a large gap before pulling out of a junction etc. i would recommend going too see gary for anyone who drives a td5 as you will not be dissapointed. many thanks to gary.

Customer: Mark - 2003 Discovery ES Premium Automatic TD5

Living in Birmingham there's a couple of 'specialist' places I could have taken my car to have the work done. One conversation with Gary and I made the 280 mile round trip to Grimsby. I had the full monty caried out - Intercooler, Re-map, Silicone hoses, Turbo booster, ITG Air filter, and EGR Bypass - All I can say is AWESOME Don't think about it anymore - Just do it. Gary is passionate about what he does and quite rightly so as he's very good at it I now have a V8 munching TD5 oh yeah and it's an Auto

Customer: Dash - Discovery TD5 ES Auto

I have had the ECU remap done by Gary on my car and the difference it has made is phenomenal.

All the sluggishness has gone - it's actually fun to drive the car now. I don't have to think twice about changing lanes or overtaking on the motorway.

At the same time I had an ITG filter put in and the EGR bypass fitted.

Gary is a top guy - genuine, friendly and a pleasure to deal with.

Any TD5 owner should really get the TD5 Alive remap done (at the very least).

Highly recommended!

Customer: Jerome Collins - 2002 Defender 90

Gary has absolutely transformed my landy with his re-tune. I cannot recommend his expertise enough!! The power delivery is now totally consistent throughout the whole rev renge. Its even better in low range! This guy knows his stuff. Very professional. No regrets...

Customer: JOHN FLEMING - DEFENDER 110 DCPU 2003

I had the larger intercooler, egr removal, turbo boost box,ecu remap and silicone turbo hoses fitted by Gary. I tow a 1,5 ton trailer every day for my business, and since having the work done my vehicle performs better towing than it did previously driving solo! It just seems to pull like a turbine, with endless power on tap if needed, long slow hills are no longer a hindrance, overtaking when towing can now be accomplished safely and with minimum fuss.I am completely satisfied with my new !! vehicle and would be happy to recommend Garys work and advice to anyone.

Customer: Simon Joslin - 2001 Discovery XS TD5 Manual

After a good chat with gary I sent my ECU on Thursday PM and it was delivered as promised on Saturday AM! The Stage 1 Remap has made an enormous difference to the running, responsiveness and general driveability of the Disco. The tuning was so effective that it highlighted a fault with the Airflow sensor! This has now been rectified and the TD5 engine is running so well with accelleration through all the gears at all revs. I now have the confidence at junctions and overtaking that was lacking before. Thanks for the good service and good advice Gary. Recommended!!

Customer: Duncan J Page - Landrover 110 HiCap Pickup

Since you ' Worked your Magic on my Landie i have never ceased to be amazed by it's abilities. It is tractable and docile around town and in traffic jams and when tootling about in traffic. On the open road, pick your speed and it does it. If you need a blast of power for overtaking, its there, as much as you need. On the motorway it will cruise at 70 all day effortlessly. Top speed, I dont know, on the M180 on a clear road with no bridges or perches for cameras I eased it to 95mph with LOADS of pedal left, who knows and I don't care what the figure is. On the muck in low it is very tractable, though power is there if needed, low down torque is amazing up to what it used to be. Loaded up a weighed tonne of wood last weekend and exept for the body roll and feel of the extra weight, performance in traffic and on the open road was exactly the same, no extra gear work. Pulling through the mud loaded up, it had been raining all week and sodden, was easy, didn't need diff lock. Got through the mud and up onto the canal bank right to the boat to unload! I've never been able to do that before. I usually have to wheelbarrow the last 50 yds! The exhaust system is brilliant, quiet in the cab but nice with the window open. My Thanks to the people at Macclesfield who did an excellent job of building and fitting it and to your time and effort that went into designing the system. I've recently had work done to the Landie in a local garage, new brake discs and pads all round, snorkel and wading kit, wheel spacers etc. The young mechanic who took her out to test and bed in the brakes was most impressed when I came to collect her! He is from a farming family and dabbles in quad bikes and knows Landies, he said it was the quickest he had ever driven and did I want to sell it! No I dont! All in all YOU have done a truly exceptional job, I would go so far as to say it is now the best motor I have ever owned and I've owned quite a few. So thank you for 'Working Your Magic' on my Landie. I have recommended you to a few people up to now and will continue to do so.

Customer: Mike Bishop - Defender 90 TD5 XS

Had a Stage 2 tune from a well known company in the West Midlands and was not happy with it at all. I had been meaning to phone Gary for a long time and am very glad I did. Took my car up there and Gary spent a good couple of hours re-mapping the car to my personal preference, road testing the vehicle after each and every map. They where all great but the final result is amazing and the driveability and power are beyond belief. I also had the boost box fitted which really livened the vehicle up. I cannot recommend Garys service more highly, by far and away the best man for the job. If you want your TD5 tuned properly GIVE THIS MAN A CALL NOW and you will nopt be disappointed!!!!!

P.S. Makes a great coffee too!

Customer: Mike - 2001 TD5 XS Auto

Having had a fairly conservative remapping I was really impressed. It certainly brings the car to life! Towing a caravan is now much more of a pleasure - the auto very rarely drops a gear and fuel consumption towing a 21ft caravan is at least as good as the mpg I used to get solo before upgrade. To be fair, there is one downside when towing....the amount of slow-moving traffic I now have to overtake!

Customer: Stepan Demura, Moscow, Russia - Disco Td5 2003 manual

Well, what can I say? Had prior dealings with a couple of \"other\" British vendors that left a real bad taste in my big mouth. Gary was an extremely pleasant surprise. Customer service is simply next to none. His installation guides are superb. I bet Gary is writing \"Tuning Td5 for dummies\" - a garanteed NYT bestseller. His knowledge and understanding of tuning is very deep and, the important part, he does not have this attitude \"Oh, we are so so special\" common among a certain group of British tuners and shares his knowledge with simpletons like me. Products ... SUPER! I am running Allisport intercooler, Gary's EGR removal kit and boost limiter removal box, no cat and no mid silencer (borrowed Gary's idea) and K&N filter. Did I forget something? But of course, Gary's special Stage II+ tune, which he provided me over the net after, based on his advise, purchased a RovacomLite. It's superb. With a good boost controller (Blitz R) and having exhaust temps and boost under control (PIVOT COMPO X) I was able (following Gary's rule of 900+) to build a monster - 195 kmh and 0-100 km under 10 secs with only 1,4 bar boost. O'k STOP reading this and shell out hard earned/inherited promises of payment for Gary's stuff. If Gary had account at bullionvault.com I would pay in kind.

Customer: Tim.Dent - 2002 Defender Td5

Had Gary sort out my stage 2 tune which was done by another company. What a difference ,Garys tune is the dogs xxxxxxx compared to what i had . Now its more powerful ,smooth , and more economical. I have also fitted a egr bypass , turbo booster and exhaust from gary and im tottally impressed by these products , the exhaust is great ,no more noise in cabin , just a nice grunty sound outside and it looks great.
If you want to tune your td5 then speak to gary , he will offer more advice than the others which is very important when tuning , if you dont want a large repair bill.
If you want the best, forget the rest, and give td5 alive a test. you wont regret it

Customer: Aaron Smith - Discovery td5 GS Auto

Had a stage one tune and the egr removed by gary. WOW,it has totally transformed the discovery,it used to struggle up long hills when towing, not anymore it's so much better, and the engine sounds less stressed.so much more usable power and torque.
great service ,great tune.
keep up the good work

Customer: alistair - 2002 td5 es premium auto

Wow is the only word available to describe the sheer joy encountered on the 128 mile journey home.

The noise is awesome, very "V8" sounding, didn't have the stereo on at all on the way home and the gear changes are a lot smoother.

Acceleration from standing starts are amazing and the look of surprise on over road users when they try to acceralterate past you is wonderful.

On the open road the acceleration again is amazing especially from around 50mph ,you can really feel all the torque that's now available.

Top speed is still unknown but all I can say is that at 105 on the flat it was still accelerating.

To sum it up you have made the best car in the world a whole lot better.

if you need me to give you a reference for any potential customers over my side of the country just email me and I will try to help.

Thanks once again.

Customer: Dave Wright - TD5 Disco 2004

Thanks Gary the remapping worked like a dream, its hard to believe the instant change, the bottom end power just appeared like magic.

Customer: Chris Donaldson - 1999 V8 Landrover Discovery S2

In January I purchased one of Gary's excellent exhaust systems. Click on the exhaust section on this website & listen to the V8 sound clip...... that's mine ! The best bit is, it only sounds like that outside, as it's so well engineered, most of the sound is left behind as you drive, not resonated into the cabin.

Fantastic!!!! Thanks Gary!

Customer: Philip Sidebottom - Discovery Td5 2002 manual GS

This guy repaired my first attempt of a chip [from another company] Then fitted his own remap,EGR replacement kit and new air flow meter and WOW, just what I wanted more power at 1000/1500rpm and so, so smoooooth to drive, it has transformed the Discovery. If you want to upgrade your Land Rover engine, Gary IS the man to see, and he makes a smashing mug of coffee as well.
Thanks Gary.

Customer: Christian Douthwaite - 2002 Discovery TD5 Man

After having my Discovery chipped, it was a total driving transformation, I cannot believe the difference!! It has made the vehicle much much easier and relaxing to drive – accelerates in 5th gear. Fuel economy does not seem to have changed, maybe even marginally better. Many thanks to Gary and his wife for there hospitality and customer service.

Customer: Derek Cole - Discovery Td5 (Precious Metal)

What can I say?

My Discovery Td5 was transformed from something that struggled away from the lights into a 4x4 with almost sports car pickup and acceleration.
I drive Police Discoveries for a living, they are flat and pedestrian by comparison. Take a test drive in a Td5Alive prepared vehicle and I bet the first words you utter when you get out will be; 'I want one!'

Top notch service, help and advice from Gary. I throughly recommend this company.

Customer: Pete from Chester - Defender 90

Gary's diagnostics helped cure a couple of long standing problems for me. The EGR removal kit has made the mid-range smoother. The Allisport intercooler and stage 2 remap has really brought the whole car alive and just when you think it's going to run out of steam the Turbo Booster gives you a hefty shove!! Brilliant well worth the trip over. Thanks Gary.

Customer: Bill Evans - 2001 Discovery TD5 GS

Just had the works done by Gary, Large Intercooler, Remap,EGR bypass kit. What a difference. The disco was lovely to drive before but now its amazing, Thanks again Gary

Customer: Glenn Stockton - Discovery TD5 XS 2004

Just had a larger intercooler and EGR removal kit fitted by Gary The vehicle had already had a flash upload by others and was very responsive for a 2.25 ton vehicle. But the larger intercooler and no dirty exhaust gases make it a more interesting drive with a massive amount of torque avalible from 1500rpm.Yes another Top job from Gary.

Customer: www.teammud.co.uk - Landrover Defender 110

Fitted the EGR kit on my TD5, its a well made piece of kit which is easy to fit. Find it has improved mid range torque, a worthwhile upgrade! When you fit it you'll also be surprised at the crap inside the EGR valve, can't be good for an engine pumping that into it instead of good clean air

Customer: Marko C C - 2001 LandRover Discovery Td5 ES7 Auto.

Overall, he is the best on tuning, headlights conversion, as he did on my Disco, very pleased with the permformance - much better then standard or JJF tuned it previously had, mostly comments from other customers are exactly same about the permformance etc. And for the new headlights, it look much better and feel so modern, visability in night is much better. Highly recommend to Gary and Td5 Alive. All the best.

Best Regards, Marko

Customer: Geoff Baldwin - Discovery TD5 ES7 Auto (2000)

Gary, Many thanks for the re-map. As you know it's been a couple of months since I had it done and I'm so impressed with the way that the car now drives. Not only the performance but the smoothness of the throttle response throughout the whole range I now feel so confident about the power increase that I find myself overtaking on uphill stretches. You have transformed my car, I still find it amusing to see the look of surprise on some people's faces as you pull away from them.

Customer: Nigel Ward - Discovery TD5 ES

This is the second time I have used Gary for my cars and as in the 1st time the service, advice and quality of the product is second to none. The tune on my Auto has made a massive difference, it is now smooth, powerful and drives like a 2.5ltr should.

Customer: Phil Kearns - Defender 90 Td5 (2001)

As Gary lives quite a distance from me we arranged a meeting at a caravan site that he was staying at with his family.

Within 40 minutes of arriving I not only had a totaly different car but also the upgraded ECU as fitted to the later model and all for the agreed price of a standard upgrade. The car is now intoxicating (If you like Defenders!)
The backup service is very comendable and I am looking forward to doing more business with Td5 Alive.
PS. If he starts selling the centre box removal pipe for the exhaust on the Defender, you should take advantage. What a sexy sound!!

Customer: Paul Lawton - 2000 Discovery ES

I enjoyed the ride down to Gary's.. I LOVED the ride home!! What a difference, the car now drives how it should, the flat spots are gone,it pulls away smoothly from rest and in every gear, with far less gear changing.. Economy wise, there's also an improvement. I didn't want anything complicated, just better driveability and a bit more go,this stage 1 tune is everything I could have wished for,and he makes great coffee! Thanks Gary. Best Regards Paul

Customer: Lynall - 2001 TD5 ES Premium manual

Thanks Gary
Cheers Mark

Customer: Andrew Cooke - 2001 TD5 ES Auto

Gary has just re-mapped my 2001 TD5 Auto and it is awesome!!

I have tried other plug in tuning devices before (Dastek and Tunit)and have had to really look for the difference but this map is superb, really smooth useable power right through the rev range and it really can leap away from a standstill if needed. It has transformed my motor from sluggish to really lively and responsive and with an uprated intercooler etc it will do more, I am delighted.

Thanks Gary !!
